MindSet...Have to do? Or have the OPPORTUNITY to do?

How often do your negative thoughts get in a spiral and you end up just feeling annoyed and frustrated with every small situation that arises? I’m the first one to put my hand up and say ‘yes I definitely have these moments’….

 

AHHHH I have to cook dinner again!

 

Now I have to do the housework…again!

 

Rar! I have to nip to the shops……again!

 

The reality is all these things actually have to be done and by constantly framing them in my head as a negative just makes it feel so much harder and quite frankly it makes me grumpy!! I hate being grumpy, and my bad mood often then negatively influences how I respond to people and activities within the day and that's never going to get the best out of a situation.

 

So here is what I have recently been doing to try and turn my mood around and still get the task in hand done…

 

I ask myself in that moment what is the OPPORTUNITY here?

 

I have the opportunity to cook my family a healthy meal again! How lucky am I to be in a position to be able to do that!

 

I get the opportunity to listen to that podcast I’ve had on my list whilst I plough on with the housework! I will be moving my body, listening and learning whilst ticking a boring job off the list!

 

I have the opportunity to walk round to my local express shop and get some fresh air, exercise and break away from my desk for 15 minutes at the same time as grabbing those few bits I need from the shops.

 

Does it work? For me it really has… Not 100% of the time (but I never aim for perfection these days anyway) so any progress or anything that even helps sometimes, is worth it!

 

Let’s look at this closer and just tune into the fact that it takes barley any effort to stop, pause and reframe, it costs NOTHING, it takes up NO extra time. 

 

This is one where, as they say…There’s no harm in trying because you've got nothing to lose!!
