The Hidden Superpower of Getting Comfortable With Failure

Let’s talk about failure, the real, uncomfortable, sometimes messy way that failure actually shows up in our lives.

Failure is awkward. It can be painful, embarrassing, and disheartening. But what if it wasn’t something to fear or avoid? What if we could get a little more comfortable with it—not because we enjoy failing, but because we finally understand that it’s part of the process?

Why am I writing about this? Because it’s something I’m facing head-on right now. As many of you have probably gathered from my recent emails, messages, and updates, I’m deep into working on some new business projects. And before I even began, I made a conscious decision: I would rather try and fail than not try at all.

Why? Because I wanted to challenge myself, to explore and to grow. I wanted to reach and help more people—but with a fully booked schedule of 1:1 sessions, I found myself turning away those who genuinely needed support. I knew I had to scale, and the only real path forward was to go online. But honestly? I also knew it would be the toughest market to crack. And I wasn’t wrong.

The truth is, nothing changes without change. That sounds obvious, but how often do we hold back from making a move, starting something new, or stepping outside our comfort zones because we’re scared it won’t work out? We’re wired to avoid risk, to avoid getting it “wrong.” But the irony is, most of us only figure out what works by getting it wrong—often more than once.

Think about any meaningful shift in your life—was it perfect from the start? Or did it take a few false starts, some trial and error, maybe a bit of chaos before things clicked?

The idea that we need to have it all figured out before we start is one of the biggest barriers to growth. But when we learn to sit more comfortably with failure—not as a reflection of our worth, but as a natural part of learning—we become braver. We try new things more freely. We let curiosity lead us instead of fear. And we start to understand that failing at something doesn’t make us a failure.

I’ve come to believe that failure is feedback. It’s not the end of the story—it’s the messy middle. It tells us what didn’t work, which often points us to what might. It teaches us resilience, patience and challenges our ability to innovate.

So here’s a gentle reminder: Try the thing. Apply for the job. Take the class. Start the project. Change the habit. Let go of the outcome. You might not get it right the first time (or the second), but the courage to try is its own kind of success. Every attempt teaches you something. Every “failure” refines your path.

Let’s normalise imperfection. Let’s expect a bit of stumbling. And most importantly, let’s not let the fear of failure keep us from becoming the people we’re trying to grow into.

If your current goal is to make some positive lifestyle shifts, I’m here—ready to walk with you step by step on that path.
